Short definitions of the terms that appear across this site, in the sense we mean them.

MASS-MARAM: The company. “Maram” means tree in Malayalam and Tamil, and aspiration in Arabic. Company →
The gateway: One box in the engine room. It reads the engine network, takes navigation and motion data with it, secures every signal, and holds what it has read when coverage drops, sending it when the link returns. Aboard →
The live picture: The map and console ashore: where each vessel is, how fast, on what heading, at what engine load and fuel state, with the current alert and MA’s reading of it. Where are my vessels? →
The voyage record: Legs, jobs, run-hours, idle time and fuel, built from what the vessel reported rather than from the logbook. What do they cost to run? →
The engineering model: What this vessel, specifically, should do: its design intent, its documentation and its operating history, tuned against live operation. Every finding is judged against it. The engineering model →
Evidence class: A plain label on every finding saying what kind of evidence stands behind it and how much weight an engineer should give it. It travels with the finding so it can be questioned later as well as when it appears. Evidence classes →
Deviation: Operational behaviour departing from the engineering model. It can be the earliest sign of a developing problem, and MA is designed to show the evidence behind it. What is about to break? →
