What the shore sees today

A hard winter of boarding runs leaves its mark on the hull and on the crew, and no record of what the boat actually met: how often it slammed, how hard, at what speed, in which direction. The survey finds the consequence long after the cause.

What MA shows

Motion data comes aboard with the engine data, so every run carries a record of the motion the vessel met and the speed and heading it met it at. Ashore, the picture shows where and when the hard days happened, and MA judges what they mean against the limits the vessel was built for.

Slamming counts and accelerations are measured. What they mean for fatigue, for machinery mounts or for crew exposure is interpretation against the engineering model, and carries the evidence class that says so.

Nordkap’s ops room watches PILOT 7’s outbound runs to Bravo carry far more slamming than the inbound legs, at speeds the coxswains held to keep station on time. The record does not tell them what to do. It tells them, for the first time, what the boat and the crew actually met.
