Navigation and motion data travel with the engine data through the one gateway aboard. When coverage drops, the gateway holds what it has read and sends it when the link returns, so the picture ashore catches up rather than staying blank.

What the live picture shows is what the gateway read: position, speed, heading, engine load, fuel state. When MA adds a reading of an alert, that reading carries its own evidence class, so the ops room knows whether it is looking at a measurement or at MA’s interpretation of one.

Nordkap Pilotage runs the Solent District from an ops room at the Port of Solent. PILOT 7 is outbound to boarding station Bravo when its speed drops over a few minutes while engine RPM holds steady. The map shows the drop; the console shows MA’s reading: consistent with a strong ebb set near the bank, no engine anomaly indicated. The coxswain’s radio call, when it comes, confirms what the ops room already understood.
