Each vessel is judged against an engineering model of that vessel, tuned by its own operating history. When machinery behaviour departs from what the model expects at that load and in those conditions, MA raises the deviation, shows the evidence, and leaves the judgement to the engineer.

PILOT 4 has two engines that have run the same hours in the same water. Over several weeks the port engine’s exhaust temperature at cruising load edges away from its own history and from its twin. No alarm threshold has been crossed. MA raises the drift as a deviation, shows the weeks of readings behind it, and the engineer decides whether to look at it now or at the next alongside.
