What the shore sees today

Once the vessel is delivered, the powering calculation, the expected operating pattern and the design limits stay in the drawings. The yard hears how the boat performs by anecdote; the operator judges it against the last boat.

What MA shows

The documentation and calculations become the engineering model before the vessel exists. Sea trials give it a baseline. After handover, every working day is judged against it: the operator sees deviation from what this vessel should do, and the yard sees how its assumptions held, with the operator’s consent and on terms agreed up front.

Findings at this stage rest on the design documentation and on trials, and their evidence class says so. As operating history accumulates, the model is tuned against it, and the evidence class travels with each finding.

A yard delivers a new pilot boat to Nordkap Pilotage. The powering calculation says the boat should hold its service speed at a stated engine load. Through the first season MA shows the days when it needed more, and where: mostly on the outbound leg into the ebb. The operator asks whether the hull needs cleaning. The yard asks whether the assumption needs revisiting for the next boat. Both are looking at the same evidence.
